I decided I did not like Vladimir Putin’s accent so I searched for more pleasing Russian sounds. By chance I discovered that the Red Army Choir still exists as a performing arts ensemble. It brings us the official music of the Soviet Union from its MySpace page. In it has performed with Finnish rock band Leningrad Cowboys, and now it apparently performs traditional Russian music.
This is already mirabilis but moreso are the archival footage of whose existence I learned while discovering the Red Army Choir. You can watch celebrations on Red Square and feel nostalgic, as I do (nostalgia, you know, is longing for what you never had). These include the victory celebration after the Great Patriotic War, which leads inevitably to footage of the Battle of Stalingrad.
From Stalingrad you are led back in time to Verdun. I was amazed to find so much footage of the Great War, so [...]

…je vestirai. The state will refund 50% of your solar installation costs up to $25,000, and the Federal tax credit is 30%. I cannot easily gather $25,000 to pay up front and apparently this, in my case, will not eliminate electrical bills. But for $8,000 I can move to solar water heating and this will cause me to recuperate the cost of installation very quickly. If I do this in 2008, I will be reimbursed $4,000 by the state in 2009, and I get a $2,400 credit on my 2009 Federal income tax.
Citizens! We should all really consider this out of patriotism, love for the earth, solidarity with people yet harder hit than ourselves by the overuse of fossil fuels, or for any other reason you can think of - like rebellion, hedonism (non-smoggy skies are a hedonistic pleasure!) The company I am talking to about this is the one [...]

The presidential candidates provide their responses to the most important science questions facing the United States.
Unfortunately, they have not yet posted Senator McCain’s responses yet, hopefully they do so at some point in the near future. So, at the moment, all they’re really presenting are Obama’s responses to the questions. It still makes for interesting reading, though.
Interestingly, although not specifically asked about nuclear energy at all, Obama specifically mentions “A new generation of nuclear electric technologies” as one of his policy goals. Such bipartisan support, even to a slight degree, is a promising sign.

You can’t have missed it. This week it’s up to the Republicans to put up their enormous show fueled with patriotism, nationalism, americanism; whatever you want to call it.
Star of the convention so far is without a doubt John McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin. The woman gives me the creeps. First of all because she might as well represent everything I personally do not stand for, but I also discover an utter republican stupidity that I haven’t seen in any ‘big fish’ republican apart from George W. Bush in recent years.
Palin’s attacks Barack Obama on his plans to ‘negotiate with America’s enemies’ were already from a rhetoric one would expect from the next Republican vice-president, but her remarks of Obama’s past as community worker were simply denigrating.
All of this was covered under a sick-making parade of Palin’s wonderful ‘all-American- family.
The woman makes me sick.

Pete Hines
Sidney Morning Herald talks to Pete Hines:
ALTHOUGH the studio might not be a household name, many spouses and partners around the world must curse Bethesda Softworks for robbing them of their loved ones.
As one of the world’s leading specialists in role playing games, Bethesda has been churning out engrossing adventures for more than a decade, including the magnificent Elder Scrolls chapters Morrowind and Oblivion.
But even with such a strong pedigree in producing captivating adventures, many fans of the decade-old Fallout games have been apprehensive about Bethesda’s upcoming third chapter in the series. Bethesda spokesman Pete Hines assures critics that the development team wants the new game to be as special as Fallout fans do.
“The majority of the expectation that we have to live up to is our own,” MrHines says. “This is the next game that we are doing after Oblivion, which clearly did well for us. So there’s [...]
Those who know me know I love Cornel West. He’s an individual that defines the pocket (keep in mind the pocket is a definitive space where knowledge and innovative thought live). So when I saw the clip below, I had to start thinking is Dr. West telling Obama to hold his pocket? Knowing what I do know about Cornel West (I sorta typed that as if me and him kick it on the regular… ah well), I think this was more of a well-planned maneuver to ensure that Obama doesn’t slip down the steep slope of “thanks Black folk, but now I’m elected and I kinda forgot who you guys are.” Hey, happens to everyone including/especially Black elects.
Cornel West chose to do the interview on the Tavis Smiley show, and before the Republican convention. To me, that says he wanted to air his thoughts on a network that he knows [...]
